Wheel of Life Tibetan Thangka Painting
Silver coated | Handmade | Cotton canvas | Thangka
Description
The samsaric cycle of existence is traditionally represented by the Wheel of Life (Riduk). It is a sophisticated circular emblem of samsara that is mostly seen in Tibetan Buddhist art. Samsara is the never-ending cycle of birth, life, and death from which enlightenment frees one. Other names for the wheel of life include the wheel of Bhavacakra, the wheel of existence, the wheel of becoming, the wheel of reincarnation, the wheel of samsara, the wheel of suffering, and the wheel of change. A fearsome figure is depicted as controlling the Wheel of Life with its teeth, hands, and feet. The figure's precise identify differs. Yama, the god of death, or Kala, the master of time, are two popular choices for the figure. The "Face of Glory" or Kirtimukha are other names for this figure. The twelve portions that make up the outer rim of the wheel are known as the Twelve Interdependent Causes and Effects or the Twelve Links of Causality.
